On the 20th of February 2022, the visitor with the number of seven hundred and fifty thousand entered the pavilion of the Czech Republic at the General World Exposition in Dubai. The half-millionth did so only a month ago.
"February is an unexpectedly pleasant surprise for us and our exhibitors - attendance at the national exposition essentially doubled, and fifteen thousand people came to visit yesterday," says Jiří František Potužník, Commissioner General of the Czech participation at the EXPO, "and although we negotiated an extension of the restaurant with the organizers, adding a terrace and significantly increasing the number of tables, there was a queue waiting for Czech traditional specialities and Pilsner Urquell."
Abdulaziz Alobaidli, who visited the Czech pavilion in the morning, also received a voucher for lunch. The 38-year-old father of four and his wife came to Dubai from Abu Dhabi and chose the Czech Spring exhibition based on the recommendations of their friends.
"I heard about the Czech pavilion from acquaintances who were already here and recommended it very much, so I decided to visit the Czech pavilion with my family today," said Abdulaziz Alobaidli. Apart from the lunch invite, he also received the commemorative coin Czech Lion made from pure silver and created especially for the national pavilion at the EXPO, as well as the exclusive TONAK hats, a postage stamp from the limited-edition EXPO 2020 Dubai, chocolates by Prague Chocolate, and other trinkets.
The EXPO in Dubai ends on the 31st of March 2022, and ten days before that – that is on the first spring day - the National Day of the Czech Republic with the distinctive name Czech Spring will take place at the expo site. The cultural program, which includes classical music and street theatre with practical jokes and other spectator-attractive performances, will culminate with the multimedia show iMucha. In it, Michal Dvořák directs the canvases from the painter Alfons Mucha to come to life narrated by the voice of the actor Pierce Brosnan.
